The machine should use its own genuine intelligence, find answers independently and solve problems.
Weak AI
We have been encountering artificial intelligence in hidden form for some time, for example in the form of product recommendations on Amazon.com, in automatic person recognition in photos or when using voice assistants such as Siri or Alexa. This is referred to as ‘weak AI’: an algorithm accesses large databases, links them and derives an answer from them.
Strong AI
The opposite of this is the ‘strong AI’ that we know from science fiction: a machine that can answer any question autonomously. Strong AI is not a reality today, but new applications such as the image generator Midjourney or the language model GPT-3 show how even weak AI, with the help of the huge amounts of data available, is demonstrating more and more abilities that we were previously unaware of.
