What Is the Industrial Peace Obligation?

The industrial or labor peace obligation applies for the duration of the CEA and during negotiations.

No Industrial Action

The peace obligation obligates the contracting parties (employees and employers) to maintain industrial peace. This means that in the event of differences of opinion and conflicts, no combative measures may be taken. In particular, strikes must be avoided.

Resolving Conflicts through Negotiations and Arbitration

Differences of opinion and conflicts must be settled by other means. CEAs usually provide for regulations for this purpose, e.g. negotiations and/or arbitration.
