The trend towards ‘Quiet Vacationing has come to Switzerland from the USA. This involves employees taking time off or holidays without informing their employer. 
To make Quiet Vacationing work, employees use digitalisation: they take part in meetings online or plan to send emails outside of working hours in order to appear particularly busy. 

Why do people take quiet vacations?

The reasons for taking secret holidays vary. They range from underload and boredom to the fear of asking for holidays or the fear of burdening colleagues with additional tasks due to their own absence.
According to studies from the USA, Quiet Vacationing is primarily a phenomenon among millennials. In the last 12 months, 10% of employees in the USA are said to have practised Quiet Vacationing.
